Direct Tax Alert – Extension of the due date of filing of the Income Tax Returns and Tax Audit Reports

The Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) has announced on 26 September 2019 that the last date for filing of Income Tax Returns (ITRs) and Tax Audit Reports (TARs) for audit cases has been extended to 31 October 2019 from 30 September 2019 vide a tweet. Further, CBDT issued an order dated 27 September 2019 pertaining to the extension of due date for filing of ITRs & TARs for Assessment Year (AY) 2019-20 in respect of the following category of taxpayers:  
  • A Company (Not required to furnish a report u/s 92E of the Income Tax Act, 1961 (ITA) i.e. Form 3CEB);
  • A person (other than a company) whose accounts are required to be audited under the ITA (i.e. Tax Audit) or under any other law for the time being in force;
  • A working partner of a firm whose accounts are required to be audited under the ITA (i.e. Tax Audit) or under any other law for the time being in force.
