Businesses should ensure filing income tax returns by 30 April 2024

Who should file?

Businesses falling under the purview of Income Tax Law in Qatar are ‎required to file income tax return annually.

All companies with a commercial register / ‎license must therefore submit a tax return irrespective of whether they have ‎engaged in actual commercial activity.

However, Companies wholly owned by Qatari /GCC nationals resident in Qatar are exempt unless they specifically generate any taxable income.

Due Date?

The General Tax Authority in Qatar on 1 January 2024 has announced the timeframe for the submission of tax returns for the tax year ending on 31 December 2023. Thus, the last day for filing the tax return is 30th April 2024. Also, the tax payments are due on the same day as annual tax return.

Penalty?

Late filing of such tax return could attracts penalty of QAR 500 per day, capped at QAR 180,000.

Further, any late payment of income tax payable is liable to a penalty of 2% per month, capped at the amount of income tax due.
