General Tax Authority Launches 100% Financial Penalty Exemption Initiative

In a strategic move to support businesses and enhance tax compliance, Qatar’s General Tax Authority (GTA) has introduced a 100% financial penalty exemption initiative, effective from March 1, 2025, for six months. This initiative provides businesses with a valuable opportunity to rectify tax discrepancies while reinforcing transparency and efficiency in the tax system.
Eligibility Criteria
To qualify for the penalty waiver, taxpayers must:
- Register: Ensure registration on the Dhareeba Tax Portal, updating all relevant information such as company details, partner information, and economic activity.
- Compliance: Submit all pending tax returns, financial statements, and necessary documents before applying.
- Payments: Settle all outstanding taxes prior to submitting the waiver request.
- Commitment: Maintain compliance by timely submitting future tax returns and payments while ensuring accurate contact details.
Exclusions
The waiver does not apply to:
- Entities involved in legal proceedings related to income tax or excise tax violations.
- Companies subject to a 35% or higher tax rate.
- Businesses with an average annual revenue of QAR 50 million or more (2014–2023).
- Penalties that were already settled before March 1, 2025.
H.E. Mr. Khalifa bin Jassim Al-Jaham Al-Kuwari, President of the GTA, emphasized that this initiative aligns with Qatar’s commitment to fostering a competitive business environment while balancing tax compliance and corporate support. He urged businesses to seize this unique opportunity to regularize their tax status and enhance long-term compliance.
